BRENT RIDGE - NAC CASSES 10.03.15


Looking to use pouring and alternative techniques of all-over abstraction bring surfaces and supplies useful for this kind of process painting.  Sprayers, Squeegees, House Paint, String, Ice Removers all work to increase size of tools and the quantity of our paint.  Bring more than one surface and bring paper that can be used to blot the surface and I will talk about that as well.

BRENT RIDGE - NAC CLASSES 10.27.15


This week we want to start using all-over techniques experimenting with our paint and tools.
Expand brushes to using water (or medium) to spread color out and let it play in experimentation or let it drip and run.  Using scrapers, or pushing paint with big brushes or even cardboard – we want to see unexpected results in the paint and let it arise compositions for us.  Bring more than one surface.

It's all about rhythm - think in a jazzy way (like improvisation)!

BRENT RIDGE - NAC CLASSES 10.20.15


After employing strategies of cube we move our attention to using simple shapes to comprise our composition.  Still trying out geometric form, use shape to comprise your visions.  Looking at Jawlensky we see how to make faces using this as an abstract form.  Feel compelled to make abstractions that reflect an image through geometry.  The big spaces created in his abstract faces gives a place for our eye to rest.  There are still layers too – not paint by number.

Bring some ideas of face, or landscape, or tree or symbol to explore through geometric shape to form a painting.  And let cool and warm colors play off each other.

BRENT RIDGE - NAC CLASSES 10.13.15


Hello everyone,

So excited that everyone is diving into letting paint work its way through looking at nature and working through layers of paint.

What I would next like to direct everyone toward is a way of translating an image into a palette of color.  I want everyone to bring at least one picture of a person, self or else, a tree or something you would like to see transform.

Using this as a starting point we will use simple shapes such as squares, triangles or circles in a grid formation format to make our pictures.  We will be inspired by Paul Klee and here is his example.

Bring a paper to sketch with as that will be necessary to think out the process - our color placement will be approximate but we will change and improvise for the sake of our composition.
