BRENT RIDGE - NAC CLASSES 02.02.16

Last week was great and now we look to make abstract painting constructions from our cumulated drawings and paintings.  We will use De Kooning as a model for expressive painting in all-over style construction from collaging these pictures in a process each make individual to their style.

Notice the tacks holding pieces down in the painting.  We can use glue (white pva based such as Elmer's works), acrylic medium or tacks ourselves.  It may work well to work on cardboard if you are going to collage and paint together with tacks.  You can also use these as collages to work from to draft the direction of your painting.

BRENT RIDGE - NAC CLASSES 01.26.16


PAINTING WITH GESTURE

We will have a Model this week for our class.
Bring materials (a pad of good paper) to work with to draw and paint from the Model in short to medium length poses - and you can paint directly to a canvas as well.

We will be using gesture, that is movement in our tools,
to capture the forms of what we see.
Very useful with the Model - hence the introduction at this time.
Keep in mind this will be about process and not replicating the figure.
We will make images this week that will feed into a process for the following week.
I will bring a bottle for everyone to involve drip trailing with paint to experiment with in our gesture painting.

BRENT RIDGE - NAC CLASSES 01.12.16


Hello All and welcome to the Abstract Process of Painting.

This being the beginning of the new year, 
we will look to create something out of these new, dark days and bring to light something magical.
That is why I want us to bring or think of an image that can represent the old to begin our painting and transform that into something that is the new through the process of painting.  

We will use Pollock as our model - the ultimate 'all over' style of abstraction to begin our journey.

You can drip, splash, pull, pile, drag, knife your way through the paint to create space and depth through line and gesture in a painting.
