BRENT RIDGE - NAC CLASSES 12.01.15

Hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving Holliday and last week's special visiting artist John Murray.

We have two classes left and want us to focus on our own stylistic concerns and try to move the needle on a project of our own that may take 2 sessions (meaning if you've got that big canvas left you've been itching to paint, now is the time).

As a theme for this I can offer you a focus of HARD or SOFT.
Most of abstract painting can fall under these too broad descriptions of shape and here are some examples:

Anton Henning

Helen Frankenthaler

And of course there's somewhere in-between:

Hans Hoffman

Eva Lundsager

BRENT RIDGE - NAC CLASSES 11.17.15

Hello All,

Last week went into interesting ways investigating a specific color theme.
I would like you to continue in this vein - now as a DOMINANT COLOR theme.
This means you can use more colors in your palate, but in your painting you want to focus on one or two colors driving the composition overall.  This affects the mood, the space, the feeling of the painting.
Take a look at how this works in Hans Hoffman's work:

Hans Hoffman has more kinds of work than I could ever post here:  LINK
He paints abstract, figurative, drips - he does it all.

BRENT RIDGE - NAC CLASSES 11.10.15

COLOR:

What is it?  What does it do?  How does it work?
Let's do something specific with COLOR
I want you to bring in paint chips that you have selected to work with one another as a color scheme.
2-3 should do as a COLOR arrangement.

Bring lots of white.
You can bring house paint (its acrylic, right?) - just not in the colors of the paint chips you are going to use.  You must be able to mix up your color to color match the paint chips you are going to use.
Got it?

See you next week.
